Setting up Exchange Email Setting up POP3 Email Exchange on your Mobile

Instructions for setting up Exchange

The following instructions will allow you to configure Outlook for Microsoft Exchange Email Services. In order to use Outlook in Exchange mode your email account must be unlocked for access to the Premium Exchange Services. Please contact Illini Tech Services for more information.

Why Use Exchange Email rather than standard email?

  • Automatic backup of all contacts, emails and calendar items (crash your PC or lose your laptop and you WILL NOT lose your email or contacts).
  • Synchronize email, calendars and contacts between your home PC and work.
  • Logon online while traveling and have all of your email, contacts, tasks and calendars available anytime, anywhere.
  • Add calendar items from your home PC and it will automatically add it to your office PC and mobile phone.
  • Assign tasks to others from anywhere and know when the task gets done automatically.
  • Add a contact to your mobile phone and it automatically is added to your PC contacts.
  • Automatically get reminders of bills to pay, appointments, to-dos on your phone and PC.

Step 1. Exchange Email
Exchange email requires Outlook 2003 or Outlook 2007
The first step in setting these up is to open the Control Panel and then select the Mail Icon
You should see a pop-up box like the one in the image below labeled Mail Setup
In the Mail Setup pop-up box click the Email Accounts button

 

Step 2. Account Settings
After clicking the Email Accounts button you should get a pop-up box labeled Account Settings
There are several labeled tabs near the top of this box. You want to select the Email tab
Then you click the New button which is just under the Email tab

 

Step 3. Adding New Email Account
Clicking the New button should pull up an image like the one below
Select the top option for Microsoft Exchange, then click Next

 

Step 4. Auto Account Setup
On the next screen, shown below, click the check box for Manually Configure Server Settings
and then click Next

 

Step 5. Choosing E-mail Service
On the next screen click the options for Microsoft Exchange and then click Next

 

Step 6. Microsoft Exchange Settings
The next screen will look like the one below.
For server name enter exchange.illinitechs.com then enter your username in the field
provided and click on More Settings

Step 7. Connection
Clicking the More Settings button should give you a pop-up box like the one below.
You will need to select the Connection tab to get the connection settings.
Check the box at the bottom labeled Connect to Microsoft Exchange using HTTP
Then click the Exchange Proxy Settings button

 

Step 8. Exchange Proxy Settings
The Microsoft Exchange Proxy Settings pop-up box is shown below.
The first part of this step is to enter our URL which is exchange.illinitechs.com
Then, check both the On fast and On slow boxes.
After that the suthentication must be changed to Basic Authentication like in the example below.
When finished click Ok
Then click Apply and Ok to get out of the connection pop-up
All you have left is to click the Next button in the original pop-up and you are finished

Step 9. Opening Outlook
When you open Outlook you will be prompted to enter your username and password
Your username will need to be entered in the following format:
Illinitechs\username
Enter your username and password and then click Ok
